The Diversity of Melbourne’s Real Estate

The sprawl of Melbourne’s urban development happened over time, and with that slow spread came a changing landscape of residential architecture. While based in beautiful bayside Beaumaris, our travels to suburbs further afield allows us to experience the varied charm of different eras and fashions. Our favourite properties are ever-changing – one day a cosmopolitan lifestyle on the edge of our vibrant city will appeal, the next plans of escaping the rat-race to sleepy coastal neighbourhoods have an irresistible pull.

As you travel south from the city, you can almost feel the evolution. The inner-city urban edge of Richmond’s warehouse conversions sit alongside the intricate lace of Victorian cottages, Elwood’s Edwardian grace is peppered with Art Deco grandeur and contemporary developments whilst the substantial family residences of Brighton’s Golden Mile give way to coastal masterpieces that flaunt expanses of glass capturing inspiring water views.

Amongst it all, are the stories of the real people who created the history and carved the paths for each locality. The stevedores that worked the docks at Port Melbourne and for whom government housing was built; the Greek and Italian communities who developed Prahran, Carlton, Oakleigh and more, riding on the success of their classic eateries and providores. Add then, the 1960s families for whom the cream triple-fronted homes represented the great Australian Dream until we reach today’s hopeful generation branching out into brand new estates – the vast array of property on offer is quintessentially Melbourne.

Spreading our wings south of the city, we love the variety that comes with stepping outside our homelife bubble. From South Melbourne to Mount Eliza and beyond, the colour and diversity of the homes we visit adds the flavour, allure and fascination that make up an average day at Pineapple Prose.
